Radiant Barrier System on all exterior walls and roof controls heat gain in summer and heat energy loss in winter.
Tests have shown Radiant Barrier Systems (RBS) gives big bang for the buck. The very definition of RBS means BLOCK. RBS blocks 97% of heat transfer from summer sun and prevents 65-85% heat loss from heated home in cold heating season. Insulation, on the other hand by definition: R-Value means RESISTANCE. Resistance only slows heat transfer down, does not block it. When insulation gets saturated with heat, it goes on through and escapes, in or out.
The term we want to remember is BARRIER means BLOCK. R-Value means resistance or slows, doesn’t block as most people would want you to believe. It only slows. It all comes down to TOTAL COST OWNERSHIP (TCO) utilities and maintenance of heating and cooling equipment.

Insulation R-Value (Resistance) determines the time it takes for heat to transfer through the insulation.
Properly installing a Radiant Barrier System (RBS) prevents the heat from entering the insulation in the first place. Therefore, increasing R-Value is no longer the main issue, or as important in conserving energy to keep warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Test results has proven that Radiant Barrier System, properly installed using a quality LP TechShield or equivalent material, blocks 97% heat transfer. Insulation slows, but does not block heat transfer.
We have built over 400 homes in the states and Mexico using RBS on all exterior walls and roof. All insulation is continuous EPS on outside forming an envelope. No venting. We use a heat exchanger and control the fresh air both in and out. Our blower door came in at 2.7, 259% better than Energy Star requirement.
